1. the principles of UV-visible absorption spectroscopy: Electronic excitation/transition and light absorption and the origin of colour and complementary colour in the absorbing substance.
2. the working principles of UV-visible spectrophotometer: Instrumentation; and
3. the measurement of absorbance (or transmittance) a coloured substance in a solution by using a spectrophotometer.
